What is #DataFam?

As someone new to the data space, the word "Datafam" can be seem exciting as well as daunting as there is no clear guide to let anyone know its roots and what does it mean.

Fair enough! I am taking the liberty to share my knowledge about DataFam and how it has helped me progress my career at an exponential pace.

Disclaimer: I am not a DataFam expert but just someone who started his data journey in 2020 and didn't know how to keep up with the evolving market.

Okay! I won't give you a speech and will wrap this blog in 5 major points.

1. DataFam is not a gated community!

As soon as I heard about this term, I had several questions in my mind about how to be a part of this group and how it can help me.

To be honest, I found that it is just a group of individuals on Twitter/X who share the love of data visualization and seem to use this hashtag so that they shouldn't miss out on knowledge shared by one another.

Frankly, you do not even need to publish visualizations to be a part of it but if you do that, you can create more fruitful connections.

Also, there is no subscription or fee to be a part of such a big group of knowledgeable data professionals who carelessly share everything they know without any expectations.

So, if you want to be part of it, all you need is to jump on twitter/x and search for #datafam. You will see a feed of events, visualizations, blogs and all things Tableau and analytics.

2. Why I should invest my time with #DataFam?

It's a fair ask but wouldn't you pay for an app which gives you everyday knowledgeable content from one of the best professionals across the world.

You would, right? The funny thing is you just need to invest a bit of your time and get an awesome feed that will nourish your career to its highest potential.

All you need is to absorb as much as you can! No rush!

3. DataFam leans on one another

As much as it is about absorbing that knowledge, you can always ask for feedback using the hashtag on your work and I must assure you that someone will be there to help you with your request.

For someone finding opportunities in the data space, DataFam serves as a beacon too.

As you become a part of this group and make connections, you are also making your way to be a part of a wider network of individuals who are working at several organisations providing you a better chance of landing a good opportunity.

To be honest, if I have to hire someone, my first go-to pool is DataFam because there are so many capable individuals and knowing their work helps in shortlisting a candidate from any region or part of the world.

5. DataFam helps you in outgrowing yourself!

I'm sure you have heard about the proverb - "You are an average of the 5 people you spend the most time with"

It might seem daunting as well but do not think about running a race with anyone, you are you and your career matters.
