What Are Data Loggers?
What Is A Data Logger / Log Tag?
A data logger is an electronic device which automatically monitor and records temperature over time, this allows conditions and a product to be measured, recorded, analysed, validated and reported on. Information which is stored on the data logger is transferred to a computer for analysis by the quality team to decide if the product has been kept within the correct temperature and condition.
The temperatures that can be recorded vary depending on the data logger / log tag, PIMM TAGS have the following ranges.
PIMM TAG Low Temp: +40C down to -90C
PIMM TAG: +70C down to -30C
PIMM LogTag: +85 C down to -40C
PIMM AirTag: +85 C down to -40C
How Is A Data Logger Used?
When a product is being shipped the data logger will be registered and the product profile set so the correct temperature thresholds are set. The projected product temperature (PPT) can also start its process of using its algorithm to predict the product temperature. When the product reaches its destination the data logger is connected to computer and the data collected is retrieved.
How Is A Data Logger / Log Tag Started?
To start a data logger or log tag the device must first be registered using the route proposed and the product being monitored. Procuro data loggers and log tags have the additional feature of product profiling and projected product temperature (PPT) for projecting the core temperature of the product.
What Are The Advantages Of A Data Logger Or Log Tag?
There are many advantages of data loggers and log tags, these are our top 5:
- Staff save time on manually checking products with temperature probes as the data logger / log tag software and hardware automatically do this. This saves time which can be allocated to other vital areas and tasks.
- The quality of data received is far better than manual recording. The log tags data is easily viewed and shared in an organisation through an online web portal and iPads / iPhones.
- Verification when the planned delivery does not go to plan. We have dealt with many cases where at the end of the shipments journey some products have been damaged due to not being kept within there threshold temperatures which results in the product being destroyed. This would create a problem for the sender to prove where and when the product was damaged but if data loggers or log tags are used this process is simple and easy. This helps with dealing with insurance claims and preventing this from happening again.
- Low cost. Data loggers / log tags are a low cost option for continuous temperature monitoring (CTM) which is vital for validation and preventing distribution of products that have been thermally bused.
- Monitoring the complete transport process from point A to B allows for management to change processes which will improve the efficiency and performance.
What does a data logger measure?
A data logger / log tag, monitors and measures temperature and humidity of the space it is located in. It is a portable measurement instrument that is capable of autonomously recording temperature over a defined period of time. A data logger / log tag is used to monitor shipments in a cold chain and to gather temperature data from diverse field conditions and applications.
