What is Cybersecurity, Why it’s Essential, and How to Implement

If you are a business owner today, you’ve probably heard buzzwords like cybersecurity, data security, cyberattack, ransomware, multi-factor authentication (MFA), and a laundry list of other terms you may or may not know the meaning of. The world of IT is complex and extensive and can leave you feeling lost and discouraged. Even if you have implemented some level of cybersecurity within your organization, understanding it on a high level and why it is so important will allow you to make the right decisions when it comes to your business to ensure you are protected and secure.

Simply put, cybersecurity is the practice of protecting your network and data from external threats. Cybersecurity is an umbrella term that encompasses information, network, cloud, storage, and mobile security alongside user education, recovery planning, and more. Within your organization, there are many points at which cyber attackers can infiltrate and compromise the network if it is not secure. These attacks can lead to data theft, server crashes, phishing scams, and more, ultimately running the risk of you losing your data, paying a ransom, experiencing significant downtime, and/or suffering intangible costs such as broken client relationships. As such, it is so important to have an end-to-end, comprehensive cybersecurity infrastructure to protect your organization from any potential threats.

Unfortunately, many small- and medium-sized organizations do not have the resources in-house to implement an entire cybersecurity system and are often left with minimal protection and without the capabilities to handle an attack. Overall, these businesses are extremely vulnerable and could experience significant repercussions upon a breach.?

Thankfully, there are options. Managed Service Providers (MSPs) like WW Works provide full-stack IT and help-desk support to SMBs that do not have the resources for an in-house IT department. This means that we are your IT department, implementing end-to-end cybersecurity, monitoring your network, and offering support whenever you need it.?

If you are an SMB without in-house IT that has zero or limited cybersecurity implemented, you can try our free Security Risk Assessment - WW Works to identify any potential risks in your organization.
