Sustainable Urban Transport in Tirana II (SUTi)?

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ) is a federal enterprise that supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. Urban mobility is a pressing global issue, characterized by rapid motorization, severe air quality challenges, and limited access to opportunities. Sustainable Urban Transport (SUTi I) project, initiated by GIZ and funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), successfully enhanced urban mobility data management, improved the bus system, and promoted walking and cycling. Significant investments have been made, resulting in positive outcomes. The momentum of these progressive urban mobility interventions must be maintained and strengthened to transform Tirana and other cities in Albania into more sustainable and enjoyable cities.

The Sustainable Urban Transport II (SUTi II) project aims to support the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy (MoIE) and the Municipality of Tirana (MoT) in enhancing their technical capacities for implementing sustainable urban mobility measures.

This project will have three main areas of intervention:

·???????? Municipal Level: Strengthen organizational development for the establishment of transport authority in Tirana, modernise public transport, and expand walking and cycling infrastructure to enhance climate-friendly and inclusive urban mobility,

·???????? National Level: Support institutional reform programs in public transport, provide technical advice on modernizing national framework conditions, and develop coordination platforms to improve sustainable urban mobility at the national level.

·???????? Digital Transformation: Implement a comprehensive urban mobility data strategy, apply enhanced data-based instruments, and develop digital demonstration projects to strengthen climate-friendly and inclusive urban transport at both municipal and national level.

For the support of the SUTi II Tirana team, GIZ Albania is seeking the following:

a Local Intern

?

Objective and Function:

The intern will be working alongside the SUTi Tirana team and give support to the ongoing day-to-day tasks of the project.

?

A.??????? Responsibilities

The intern is responsible for:

• Engage in research work needed for the project (desktop research, on-the-ground surveys, interviews, data collection etc.) as requested by their direct mentor;
• Writing texts and content for publications;
• Social media support and other communication tasks;
• Graphic design work for presentations and publications;
• Data visualisation / infographics;
• Support with logistics for project, such as (online) workshops and events.

B.??????? Required qualifications, competences and experience

• You are interested in sustainable urban development and sustainable mobility;
• You enjoy working with digital/social media and like to write in English;
• You put creative ideas into practice in an agile, fast and productive manner and work efficiently, solution-oriented and self-reliant;
• You are still studying or finalized your studies recently (not more than 6 months ago) in an area that is related to the project objectives, such as environmental studies, architecture, design, urban planning, geography, infrastructure management, transport planning, or any other related field;
• You have very good written and oral knowledge of Albanian and English language;
• You have very good working knowledge with standards office suite (e.g. Word, Powerpoint, Excel);
• Knowledge of Adobe Create Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign) is a plus;
• First experiences with GIS applications, such as ArcGIS or QGIS are a plus;
• You have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to adapt to different environments.

Contract conditions
