What the Crossfit Community and TangoCode Culture Have in Common

If you’ve ever had the privilege of being part of the CrossFit community, you know how rewarding and exciting it can be. This is a place where hard work is rewarded, competition is central, and change is the norm. In many ways, it represents what a better culture or society may look like: dedicated, focused, and driven.

This is one of the primary reasons that people who love CrossFit do everything they can to take the principals of the community back into their personal and private lives. And it’s why our team here at TangoCode has built a great deal of our corporate culture to align with the CrossFit outlook and lifestyle.

Here are a few things we’ve taken from the gym out into work life:

1. Each WOD / Sprint Gets us Close to the Endgame

Ask any crossfitter why they love their workouts, and they’ll tell you that all the lifting, all the sprints, and all the early mornings are their ways of meeting personal or physical goals. Each workout is a building block toward something larger and more important.

Here at TangoCode, we see our work the same way. Not every day is groundbreaking or glamorous, but everything we do, each client we serve, each new service we offer gets us closer to our objectives and allows us to be proud of the progress we’re making. We take every Agile Sprint like a WOD: its a personal competition, and we're trying to get better results. Short achievements will be big achievements in the long-term.

2. Setbacks Happen

In business as in CrossFit, things go sideways. Just like a CrossFit athlete can get injured and miss out on the games this year, projects fall through, deals don’t work out as well as they did on paper, and launches get delayed.

Setbacks are inevitable, but how you respond to them matters. If you got hurt in the gym, for example, would you do collapse into your couch and give up on exercise forever or would you heal, focus on making your body stronger, and get back out there? This is a lesson we learned in CrossFit, and which we now take with us into our day-to-day business. 

3. We are Faster With Practice and Knowledge

If you tried to do the MURPH without having ever completed a CrossFit workout before, you’d be in some serious pain. This is because muscles can’t operate at their highest capacity when they’re cold. In the same way, you can’t expect to build a great business or offer great service unless you create a great culture, first. At TangoCode, we practice for success every day. This makes it easier to achieve in the long-run.

4. You’re Measured by Your Effort

CrossFit athletes know the value of digging deep and striving to be better. We push harder and try more to get better in all aspects. Here at TangoCode, we strive to do the same thing. While we celebrate the small victories, we’re also committed to setting and crushing new goals and bringing our best efforts to the table, every single day.

From the Mat to a Meeting: How CrossFit has Made us Better

You learn important lessons from team sports. CrossFit is no different. It’s been a massive component of my life, and it’s taught me how to run a business and manage my team more effectively. Today, it’s the customers who benefit from these lessons, and who get to enjoy them as we continue striving to serve our clients better and more effectively each year.
