What CrossFit and 16-Hour Growth Plan Have In Common

This month the CrossFit Games happened in Wisconsin, and if you haven’t done CrossFit before, you might see footage of the Games and be absolutely confused by what you’re seeing. You also might think it looks impossible. When I first started CrossFit there were several movements that I thought I would never be able to do. I would tell myself that those movements are just ‘not for me’. But something amazing happens when you start working towards a goal. You get better!
You don’t have to be good to get started, but you do have to get started to get good.
CrossFit, whether you love it or hate it, has created a platform that allows athletes from across the world to compete, train, and have fun together, no matter if you’re a Games competitor or you’re just starting out. Toes-to-Bar may mean nothing to most people, but to two CrossFitters from across the world, there is a foundation by which they can compare notes and provide tips and tricks.
Toes-to-Bar is one of the movements that I thought I would never be able to do. I just couldn’t wrap my mind around it. Yet I’d show up and watch other people do it, and as I progressed and got stronger, all of the sudden it wasn’t so impossible. Now, even though my son, Kyle, is decades younger than I am, we can compete with each other and have lots of fun. Check out the video below for Kyle and I practicing our Toes-to-Bar. Who has the better form?

I encouraged Kyle to get into CrossFit for years before he joined a gym in Dallas. Now, it is so much fun to work out together and be able to compete with each other in a way that wouldn’t be possible without the shared platform CrossFit provides. He has spent many mornings at my gym in Frisco, and I have spent many mornings at his gym in Dallas.
It is with this idea in mind that I am such a fan of the Scaling Up performance platform. My clients vary in size, from single-digit millions in yearly revenue to well over nine-figures in yearly revenue. But regardless, when my clients come together, whether serendipitously or through an event like 16-Hour Growth Plan, they have a common platform by which they can challenge and push each other to grow. You’d be amazed at what the insights from a company doing $15mm in revenue can do for a company that is doing $100mm in revenue when there is a common understanding of goals, metrics, and language, and for leaders whose companies are doing $15mm in revenue to get to learn from leaders from nine-figure companies is vital for breaking down limiting beliefs.
P.S. – last week Kyle and I had my friend, Rick Sapio , join us at Kyle’s gym in Lake Highlands for a 5:30am workout. Drop me a message if you ever want to join me!

1 年People think CrossFit is only for extreme athletes, but it can be scaled and adapted for almost anyone. I was 280lbs when I took my first CrossFit class. I was 230lbs when I became a certified CrossFit trainer. My body began deteriorating in 2021 (undiagnosed but all the symptoms of MS) and in March this year I was hospitalized with full paralysis below the waist. I credit my CrossFit knowledge and personal determination with being able to walk unassisted today. CrossFit is the definition of transferable skills.
