What if countries thought like startups

What if countries thought like startups

Everyone who knows me knows that nothing upsets me more than bureaucracy. It may be my experience with the public sector, but I always get angry when I feel that employees of a country's citizens are working too inefficiently. Please note that I mentioned "citizens of a country" because we taxpayers are supposed to run the country, so in the end, everyone who works for the state works for us.

I recently had a thought in the morning that I wanted to share. Whoever works in a startup knows that inefficiency kills you. So what if we imagined that our ministries thought like entrepreneurs?

Ministry of Economy. What problem do we need to solve? We need to increase the overall GDP. One essential partner here is the Ministry of Science and Innovation. But ultimately, my question is, what do existing companies need to thrive and grow? I am not doing my job right if I am busy with anything else.

Ministry of Science and Innovation. What problems need to be solved in this world? Climate change? A cure for cancer? More automation is required to keep companies efficient while they face a decreasing workforce. So, the job is to find a specialization for the country and focus the research on it.

Ministry of Health. Here, the KPI is healthy and happy citizens. So, how about we look precisely at what makes people sick and what can be done to increase life expectancy? Remember, the citizen is your client. We may also need to discuss efficiency. We may have to investigate how we can provide more healthcare services to the people and reduce bureaucracy while doing this.

A country that thinks like an entrepreneur or startup will be the one that will create a strong future, even if it is a small country. So, what can you do to make your country more entrepreneurial?
