What is the cost per mile and why is it important?

Cost per mile is the total cost of operating your fleet on a per-mile basis. This figure includes the cost of fuel, maintenance, insurance, permits, driver salaries and benefits, and administrative costs.

Understanding your cost-per-mile helps determine the total cost of owning and operating your fleet. It is an important reference to help you make better data-driven decisions to optimize your fleet and improve profitability. Having a clear view of your cost per mile can also make it easier to bid on potential fees and determine ROI for your work.

Of course, the cost distribution could be more complex if the company has a mixed fleet with company drivers and owners, because you have to split the cost for some items like fuel, and permits, but insurance will remain the same.?
