What is the cost of a leak?

Arguably the most precious commodity on the planet, water, can cost as little as 0.3 pence per litre to the average UK home. However, just minor leak as the result of a dripping cold water tap could cost the average UK household £300 per year if the leak is not addressed.  If it's a hot water tap you could multiply this figure several times over as you have to pay to heat the water first before watching (and hearing) your hard-earned cash dripping away down the plug hole.

Now consider this on a much larger scale with a product with a much larger cost and commercial value than water. The direct cost of leakage on a large scale production facility could soon be in the tens of thousands even millions of pounds per year.

The leak can manifest itself in many different ways from plumes or jets of condensed water vapour (steam to most people), fugitive emissions, foreign objects in your product, a pool of liquid on the floor, a pile of powder by your screw conveyor or maybe a grease volcano erupting from a pump in your plant room! Whichever form it takes, it is rarely intentional or desirable.

Then factor in the cost of maintaining plant and equipment and the cost of downtime and the costs can soon start to escalate to another level still.

Selecting the correct sealing solution and maintenance regime could save thousands or even millions of pounds each year for your business.

There are many other costs and risks associated with leaks that aren't properly addressed. There's the cost to the environment and risk to local wildlife. There's the health and safety aspect from a slip hazard to the risk of chemical burns or respiratory harm. Then there's the cost of putting it all right after the leak has occurred as this can take a significant amount of time and resource to complete whilst possibly putting technicians at risk during the clean-up which maybe could have been prevented in the first place.

Isn't prevention is better than the cure?

In most cases, I believe, dangerous and costly leaks can be avoided or at least significantly improved.

If you have sealing issues that wont seem to go away or you simply don't feel you have the resource or experience to address then maybe contacting a specialist sealing solution provider will help?

What have you got to lose? Apart from the huge costs and risks of not addressing the issue that is!
