What Are The Correct Names For Different Types Of Packaging?
There is a wide variety of packaging options, each with its own vocabulary of terminology.
Common confusion exists regarding the proper naming of several types of packaging. They have a hard time asking for certain packaging since they don't know what to call it.
This list provided here isn't meant to be a comprehensive list of all possible packaging; rather, it's meant to help readers become familiar with the terminology used to describe a few of the more frequent types of packaging.
Rigid Box es (Also called set-up boxes)
A rigid box, also known as set-up boxes and cardboard boxes, is a sturdy paper-based box made of high-quality chipboard (often 2-3mm thick), which is four times thicker than a folding carton and wrapped in decorative specialty paper.?
Since rigid boxes require some (or perhaps a lot of) manual labor, they are typically reserved for the packing of more expensive goods. Once these boxes are raised into a box shape, they do not collapse for shipping or storage, hence the term "Rigid Boxes."?
They are widely used in sectors like perfume, cosmetics, wine and liquor, gifts as well as other luxury goods.
?Here you will see a few illustrations of what the phrase "rigid box" refers to.
Folding Cartons (Paperboard box)
Although you might not be familiar with it, folding cartons have really been around since the late 19th century! To put it simply, a "folding carton" is a paperboard box.
A folding carton is made by printing on paperboard and running it through machines that cut, glue, and score the paper. Folding cartons provide a means of transporting and displaying products, but are delivered in a flat, unassembled state.
As opposed to being constructed from a single sheet of material like regular cardboard, corrugated cartons use many layers of material. There are three distinct corrugated layers: the inner liner, the outside liner, and the fluted middle layer.?
Corrugated is a lightweight and durable material, making it a good option for shippers that have a lot of items to send. It can also be used as retail packaging.
Thermoform (Blister Pack)
Thermoform, in its most basic definition, is a transparent plastic mold made specifically to house a product. The finished product will have the images and promotional details printed on a paperboard backing card. Blister pack not only provides adequate protection, but also allows for either a complete or partial visibility of the packaged goods to the consumer.

Although there are numerous distinct types of thermoform packaging, the word "blister pack" is often used interchangeably to refer to all of them.
Bags (Flexible Packaging )
Shopping bags, or "flexible packaging," can be constructed of paper or plastic, and might have one layer of material or many (lined). The term "Co-Extruded" is occasionally used, however it is only in reference to plastic bags and never paper ones.
Flexible packaging is a vast and intricate field. However, here, most people looking for flexible packaging will benefit more from a classification of "bags" into just a few popular and common categories and need to know the basic nomenclature.
