'We are marketers'
Today, I had an interesting conversation with a prospective lead, who wanted to see if we can sell their product through a 1-month long campaign; while competing with a big player (almost a unicorn).
Quoting my response below; as exactly, as I can remember!
"YES! But, on one condition.
Either your product needs to be extremely lucrative, or you need to have enough money!
We sell stuff, through stories, science, and innovation (and we love that)!
We don't normally re-invent your product!
But if you want, we will do it at an Extra Cost!
Digital Marketing (or any form of marketing for that matter), will ideally try to build a bridge between you and your customer.
You will have to do the crossing!
If you want us to carry people across the bridge, for you, it is going to cost you an exponentially higher amount!
For you, as an entrepreneur, there are two 'ideally successful' marketing shortcuts:
a) You create an amazing product
b) You invest a lot of money
Both works for us.
But if you have a half-baked product, and still have enough money to market it; I, as a marketer, would suggest that you invest the money in making your product better, before you actually start marketing!
Yes, I mean it!
Marketers would love to say honest and great stories, any day, than cooked-up fake ones!
If you want to play a short game; give us the money and we will sell (almost) anything for you!
The rule is simple.
More the hassle, more the money!
We will charge you for not attending our calls, not responding to our emails, not giving proper definitions, and even for taking a holiday!
Don't be scared! I am speaking the truth.
If you get a sweeter truth, you are at risk!
If you are looking forward to a long lasting business; be ready to sweat, struggle, and ride with us, because right marketing is not always a short-term single-player game.
It is a long-term team effort!
We would be more than happy to be a part of your organization to celebrate the win and lose together; than being a bunch of suited executives whom you would call for shortcuts!"
Because all marketers are honest tell stories!
PS: The client had requested for a proposal! :)
