Content silos are dedicated sections on your website or blog that give your visitors and search engine crawlers everything they need to learn about a topic.
Content silos are also called “thematic sections” and they are known to enhance your search engine rankings.
This helps you organize your content under designated categories.
If you’re using a CMS like WordPress, you must already be creating categories.
You just need to take care that you publish your webpages under appropriate categories to create a “common theme”.
Suppose you need to create content for the website of a pet care company. The following would be the broad categories/silos for your content pages:
Under “Pet care services”, you can have
Under “Pet health and nutrition”, you can have
Under “Product reviews”, you can have
Similarly, you can have webpages under other categories/silos.
What’s the benefit of creating such content silos?
领英推荐
When people come to your website, when they’re seeking pet nutrition advice, for example, they know that they can simply head to the “Pet health and nutrition” section.
The same holds true for search engine crawlers.
When you organize your content under well-defined silos, they find everything that needs to be crawled under the same section.
For example, if the search engine crawler crawls all your pet product reviews, it will find all the reviews under the “Product reviews” section.
This makes finding appropriate content easier both for human beings and search engine crawlers.
Content silos also help you build content authority.
You can keep on adding webpages under their designated silos.
For instance, if you have 20 pages under your “Pet health and nutrition” section, it builds your authority on the topic of pet health and nutrition.
If people search for pet health and nutrition -related topics, Google knows that you have some good content on these topics.
The more pages you add under this section, the greater authority you wield, and the better becomes your search engine visibility.
Aren’t content silo same as pillar content pages?
No, they are not.
Stay tuned to learn why not.
