What kind of content will perform best on social media in 2024?
We’re not psychic mediums at Media Borne so we can’t predict the future (We wish we could!). However, what we can do is take a look at some interesting data that’s recently been posted online that analyses what content is working right now and use that information to guide our content strategy for 2024.
Digital marketing analysts NP Digital recently conducted research across a 30 day period, taking into account the first week of January 2024 and back into December 2023, analysing 6,302,491 pieces of content across the 6 major social media networks (Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn and X) to see what was performing the best.?The main takeaway from their research probably won’t surprise you: short form video content is still on top.
Of the 6 million pieces of content analysed 31.38% of engagement was generated through short form videos. Beating long form video content (15.51%) and podcasts (13.84%) to the top spot by a significant margin.This trend continues to dominate on social media because virtually all platforms are now pushing shot form video in order to compete with the success of TikTok.
You may be sick of hearing it, but TikTok revolutionised the way people consume content. People are willing to spend on average 95-minutes a day on TikTok consuming short-form videos rather than enjoying three 30 minute videos.?
However, that doesn’t mean you should completely avoid long form content for your business. In fact, we’d suggest the complete opposite. Create long form content and break that longer video down into smaller bitesize chunks. Then you’ve effectively killed two birds with one stone. For example, you could create a podcast for your business or brand, record an hour episode and break that down into a number of short form clips that’ll give you weeks worth of content.
It’s about working smarter, not harder. It’s easier to create one high-quality long form video and break that down into high quality short form videos than it is to chase your tail around trying to create 10 different short form videos a week.
That’s our top tip for 2024 video content creation: Create long-form content and use that content to create short form content.
