What to Consider When Choosing a Video Production Company
When choosing a video production company what are the most important things to consider?
We asked our clients to complete a survey, on what was most important to them when choosing a video production company. We have then researched their answers further to bring you this post, which aims to help you make the right decision. Video production will use both time and money, so it’s very important to get the initial decisions right. When choosing a video production company there will be lots of factors that apply to your specific industry and even project. But we’ve chosen 3 key factors to consider, which according to our client base, are the most significant.
1. Price
An overwhelming majority of consumers were primarily concerned with price. This isn’t that surprising because depending on project, the agreed budget can be extremely variable. Of course when choosing a video production company, you’ll want one that matches your budget and your expectations. And there seems to be a fair bit of variance in price across the video production industry, which can be largely attributed to the the vast number of ‘young’ enterprises that have emerged. These smaller companies are typically 1 man bands that are not massively experienced but have a relatively low price point. On the other end of the spectrum are the larger production houses that have all the over heads and lots of experience but they usually come with the hefty price tag. Then of course there are the swathes of video teams in-between. The best advice is to shop around. Find a price point that you are happy with and don’t be afraid to haggle. Most creative companies are in a position to offer some leeway on prices so get out there and ask and ensure you are getting maximum value for money.
Of course price isn’t always reflective of quality. You may be able to find a cheap video production company that produces extremely high quality videos and of course there are the shiny charlatans that charge an arm and leg and aren’t able to produce any good video content for you. Second key point, be realistic with your budget and your production expectations. Going cheap can cost!
You probably don’t need something on this scale. (This is Avatar).
You also do not need this kind of workmanship. For more hilarious shitty rigs.
2. Quality
So quality is a huge factor! After price, quality was the 2nd biggest factor when deciding which video production company to choose. The portfolio section on a company’s website is a good place to start when evaluating quality. This should provide an indication into the kind of production quality you can expect. You’ll be able to see their previous clients, their previous work and it’s worth just taking a step back and seeing if your company fits in. Has this production company created video for a brand like yours? Are they used to dealing with a brand of your size and reputation? Have they worked in your industry? etc.
Portfolios are great but quality of service is just as important! This is where social media comes in to play. Social media is a great place to find out some home truths. Head to their google reviews, head to their Facebook page, head to their Twitter feed and find out what their clients really think of them! A portfolio page will always be the crème de la crème of a company and sometimes social media is where you’ll find the more authentic reflection of the quality of service!
3. Personality of The Team
When choosing a video production team it’s seriously a good idea to meet them. Like you know, face to face! Video marketing like all marketing, is personal. The company are going to have to know you and get along with you in order to achieve the best possible results. Meet up with different companies and see if you can meet the camera ops that will be there on the day. There would be nothing worse than agreeing to go with a company, only to find out their camera ops are socially awkward morons who make you feel uncomfortable or (even worse if you’re shooting a testimonial video), make your client uncomfortable! The personality of the video production team is crucial. From initial idea creation through to the delivery, you’ll want to be working with people you get on with, it’s as simple as that. Creating effective video is all about team work and lots of communication, some people gel and some people don’t. If you have problems in communicating what you are trying to achieve or your vision for a film, then it’s likely to be a long and rough road of achieving nothing. Video production companies are filled with humans so talk to them and figure out whether or not you’ll be able to understand and get along with each other, in order to work efficiently.
So there you have it, 3 things to consider when choosing a video production company. Hopefully you’ll find one that is a perfect match and create some incredible video marketing to help your business! 8 年Some good key points Sunjay Singh, here are some other considerations that come to mind. The integrity of the people you are going to work with, their creativity and their process. Experience counts for a lot - so I would like to see some examples of their work but linked to a real testimonial from clients. The best video work I have ever been involved in, has come down to using the best people I could afford and working with people who get what I am trying to achieve for the client. I am in the fortunate position that my son Tom Dalgarno is a video producer/editor and we have worked together for over 10 years.
