What are the consequences of your inaction?
Kyle Gillette
Advisor and Business Coach to Small Business Owners and Their Teams
Over the last several months, I've noticed a pattern with some of my clients and in a lot of my conversations.
People struggle to take action and move forward!
One of the biggest struggles that my clients face is their inability to take action. They see their options as overwhelming, the planning as too much, and what needs to happen as too big.
They are looking at everything as if it will happen all at once. This is never true!
Because of this, many of them stay stuck in analysis-paralysis and never take action. My encouragement to all of us is to break things down into their component parts.
Think of it this way, the next time you plan to drive your car somewhere, break down the steps. You don't just get to your destination. There are several steps before you "get there".
- Get up from your seat
- Grab your keys
- Get your bag
- Walk to the door to leave
- Lock the house
- Open the car door
- Put your bag in the car
- Sit down
- Etc.
Break Down The Idea, Goal, or Project To Smaller Parts
This list could go on for a long time. When we break our goals and projects into component parts, things become a lot less overwhelming. Even writing this article has parts to it to make it easier to write the article.
The next meeting you are leading will have smaller parts to it. Conversations you need to have. The weight you want to lose. The habit you want to start or stop. All of these projects or goals can be broken down into smaller chunks that you can achieve small victories on.
Isn't life about the small wins anyway?
These little victories will motivate you and help you to continue moving forward. This is also true is true with THE decision you are struggling with right now.
Take The First Small Step
Break down the decision you are thinking about into it's smaller parts. When we learn how to make a PB&J we take it step by step. Get out the bread, then the knife, then the peanut butter...
Whatever your decision, idea, project, or goal I want to challenge you to break it down into at least 10 steps. Then after you've done this, take your first step today!
"The consequences of your inaction will far outweigh the consequences of your actions. It's hard to learn from something you never did."
Enjoy the newfound momentum and keep getting those small victories!
