What are the consequences of physiological mandibular forward shift?

1. Increased Facial Concavity:

This condition intensifies facial concavity and disrupts the balance of the occlusal relationship, impacting both aesthetics and function.

2. Causing a Reverse Deep Overjet:

The mandibular shift causes the lower anterior teeth to move sagittally away from the upper anterior teeth, resulting in a reverse deep overjet.

3. Causing a Reverse Deep Overbite:

Due to anterior crossbite, vertical contact between the upper and lower anterior teeth is lost. This leads to their extrusion and the formation of a reverse deep overbite.

4. Causing a Deep Curve of Spee:

The anterior crossbite reduces anterior tooth contact and shifts occlusal forces to the posterior teeth. This causes intrusion of the lower posterior teeth and extrusion of the lower anterior teeth, deepening the curve of Spee.

5. Disrupted Posterior Occlusion:

The relationship between the upper and lower posterior teeth becomes unstable. Over time, this leads to a molar mesial relationship, progressing from a mesially inclined orientation.
