What are the common feed additives for pigs? Why use feed additives?

Anyone who invests in pig breeding knows that pig feed is also very particular. Adding some reagents to pig feed will help pigs grow healthily, etc. So what are the commonly used pig feed additives? Why use pig feed additives in specific pig raising?

Reason 1. Improve the nutritional status of pigs

Feed additives can promote the synthesis of nutrients in the intestinal tract of livestock and poultry, and inhibit the microorganisms in the intestinal tract of livestock and poultry that consume nutrients from the host. The daily feed of pigs lacks corresponding nutrients, so the host will naturally absorb the nutrients released by the microorganisms in the body, or absorb the nutritional needs of its own body through nitrifying bacteria. Therefore, the optimal effect of feed additives in the diet is that when the nutrient level of pigs is lower than the optimal requirement, the effect of the additive is not obvious, and when the nutrient level of the pig is higher than the optimal requirement, the effect of the additive is not obvious.

Reason 2. Let pigs achieve nutritional balance

Milk protein is the best nutritional factor for the amino acid balance of piglets, and it is also the easiest for piglets to absorb and utilize. Therefore, during the growth stage of piglets, the more protein is added to the feed, the closer the amino acid balance in the body is to the normal body protein standard of piglets. The main effect of pig feed additives that can promote growth is to play a more pronounced effect in the case of poor protein quality. It can be inferred that if pigs are fed with poor protein levels or imbalanced amino acid ratios, the addition of methionine and lysine to the feed will significantly increase the weight gain of pigs, thereby improving the conversion rate of feed.

Reason 3. Promote nutrient absorption

If the pig's intestinal wall structure is relatively thin, it can better absorb the nutrients it eats, and it also has a considerable performance in the pig's growth rate and feeds conversion rate. However, at this time, the pigs accelerated the absorption of nutrients in the feed, enhanced their hunger of the pigs, and increased their appetite of the pigs, which ensured that the pigs increased their feed intake and increased the corresponding weight gain rate. Therefore, when pigs are given antibiotics in daily production, the effect of free-feeding is more obvious than that of restricted feeding.

Reason 4. Control Swine Diseases

In actual production, if feed additives can be used correctly and rationally for pigs, they can generally play a certain role in disease prevention. According to relevant reports, feed additives play a corresponding role in disease prevention and control, mainly by inhibiting or controlling potential bacterial infections to control the probability of common diseases in pigs.

What are the commonly used pig feed additives? The main purpose of adding nutritional additives to pigs' daily feed is to balance nutrition. The type and quantity of additives in the feed mainly refer to the situation that the pigs eat the basic diet and the actual nutritional status of the pigs.

Additive 1. Methionine

At present, most of the protein feeds fed by pigs are mainly plant-based and lack methionine supplementation. Therefore, when raising pigs, an appropriate amount of methionine can be added to the feed to balance the nutritional level of the feed, effectively promote the growth of pigs, and reduce the deposition of body fat.

Additive 2. Lysine

It is the first limiting amino acid in pig feed. Commonly used animal protein feeds, bean cakes and feeds are rich in lysine, but vegetable protein feeds contain less.

Additive 3. Tryptophan

It is also a limiting amino acid, and it is also the most easily lacking in pigs' daily feeding. Usually, corn, meat meal and MBM contain only a small amount of tryptophan, which cannot meet all the requirements of pig growth and development. Therefore, pigs are fed diets with sufficient tryptophan to meet the body's needs.

Additives 4. Vitamins

The amount of vitamins required for normal growth and development of pigs is very small, but the role of vitamins is exceptionally significant. Currently, if pigs are raised in intensive mode with high energy, high protein compound feeds, and if the pigs are also producing high performance at this time, then the body needs twice as many vitamins. Most vitamins can only be obtained by adding feed, and cannot be synthesized by themselves, so it is necessary to add a variety of vitamins to the feed that pigs eat every day.

Additives 5. Medicated feed

The commonly used pharmaceutical additives in additive production are oxytetracycline, streptomycin, and chlortetracycline.

In the actual feeding and production process of pig feed additives, reasonable feed additives should be selected with reference to the specific physiological state, development, age and feeding environment of pigs. We should also choose corresponding compensatory feed additives according to the nutritional deficiency in actual pig production.
