American business leaders are competitive. They want to win. And win big. That’s how they got to lead a business.
They want to be No. 1 in sales, marketing, production, revenue, whatever.?
And if it takes crushing some competitors along the way, so be it.
But what if there is a better way?
Collaboration is the New Capital?
There is a new trend rising among American businesses. Instead of unrelenting competition within industries, competing companies form what is called a collaboration ecosystem. In a collaboration ecosystem, companies work together to combine resources, lower costs, improve performance and increase profits.?
How do they do it?
Recently, farmers in California had a big problem. Getting their produce to market. During the COVID-19 pandemic, trucking companies lost drivers to the illness or just stopped working. As in many industries. Gas prices went up, raising the cost to ship produce to retailers.?
The result? Empty shelves in grocery stores.?

Of course, individual farmers cannot control shipping companies. However, several California farmers formed a collaboration ecosystem to solve their shipping problem. The jointly hired shipping companies, coordinated shipping schedules and routes and eased their shipping problem.?
Manufacturing companies face similar supply chain issues. Additionally, they also must warehouse their products until they are ready to ship them to buyers.?
Warehouses or distribution centers are expensive.
However, in a collaboration ecosystem, manufacturers can solve supply chain issues and reduce shipping costs, much like California farmers did.?
Likewise, by coordinating personnel, resources and experiences, companies can reduce warehousing costs and increase profits.
Everyone wins-but at a higher level.?
