What is Cloud Computing?

Introduction

Cloud computing is a model for delivering information technology services in which resources are retrieved from the Internet through web-based tools and applications, rather than a direct connection to a server. It allows for on-demand access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources, such as virtual machines, storage, and applications, with the ability to scale up or down as needed, providing businesses with a flexible and cost-effective solution for their computing needs.

Characteristics of Cloud Computing

1.????On-demand self-service: End-users can quickly provision computing resources as needed without requiring human interaction.

2.????Broad network access: Cloud resources can be accessed over the network (e.g., Internet) using a variety of devices, such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets.

3.????Resource pooling: The provider's computing resources are pooled to serve multiple customers using a multi-tenant model, with different physical and virtual resources dynamically assigned and reassigned according to consumer demand.

4.????Rapid elasticity: Capabilities can be rapidly and elastically provisioned to quickly scale up or scale down as needed.

5.????Measured service: Cloud systems automatically control and optimize resource use by leveraging a metering capability at some level of abstraction appropriate to the type of service.

6.????Security: The provider is responsible for the security of the cloud infrastructure and the data stored on it.

Why cloud computing?

1.????Cost savings: Cloud computing can lower IT costs by reducing the need for investments in hardware, software, and personnel.

2.????Scalability: Cloud computing provides on-demand access to a virtually unlimited pool of resources, enabling organizations to quickly scale up or down as needed.

3.????Flexibility: Cloud computing allows for easy integration with existing systems and the ability to work from anywhere with an Internet connection.

4.????Agility: Cloud computing enables organizations to quickly test and deploy new applications, services, and updates.

5.????Disaster Recovery: Cloud computing offers built-in disaster recovery and business continuity capabilities, reducing the risk of data loss and downtime.

6.????Security: Cloud providers invest heavily in security measures, providing customers with access to high-level security capabilities without the need for large capital investments.
