What ChatGPT thinks about Change Management?

I keep being blown away by the rapid evolution of #AI, especially #ChatGPT from OpenAI . This morning, I tested it on a wide range of topics, and the responses were astonishing. Some were more thoughtful and detailed than others, some added real value, but none felt like a waste of time—especially considering they appeared in just a second or two, with only a little more time needed to read them.

I explored various questions, from “What’s the best approach to implementing SAP?” and “How are policies decided in Europe?” to “Where can I find the best snow in Europe? ??”—but the one I can’t resist sharing is:

Why change management methodologies are not widely used on large scale transformations?

answer is:

Change management methodologies are designed to help organizations effectively plan and implement changes, but they are not always widely used on large scale transformations for a few reasons:

  1. Complexity: Large scale transformations can be complex, involving multiple departments, stakeholders, and systems. This complexity makes it difficult to apply a single change management methodology in a straightforward manner.
  2. Lack of Flexibility: Some change management methodologies can be prescriptive and rigid, which may not be suitable for complex, large scale transformations that require a more adaptive approach.
  3. Lack of resources and expertise: change management methodologies require an investment of time and resources to implement, and large organizations may not have the resources or expertise to devote to change management.
  4. Limited understanding of the change management methodology: Even if a company has the resources to use a change management methodology, if the management or other key people do not understand the methodology or its importance, it may be difficult to ensure that it is adopted and used consistently throughout the organization.
  5. Resistance to change: There may be resistance from employees or other stakeholders to the changes being implemented. This can make it difficult to implement change management methodologies, as they require buy-in and support from all stakeholders.
  6. Limited visibility of the benefits: Change management methodologies can be challenging to implement, especially on large scale transformations, and it can be difficult to see the benefits of the methodology during the process, which can make it hard for management to justify the investment.

However, this does not mean that change management methodologies should not be used in large scale transformations. They can be used in a flexible way, adapted to specific needs and circumstances of the organization, and can be combined with other methodologies to make the transformation process smoother.

All points listed are good and some excellent, but it does not stop there! When asking:

How to convince stakeholders to use it more?

says:

Convincing stakeholders to use change management methodologies more can be a challenge, but here are a few strategies that may be helpful:

  1. Communicate the benefits: Clearly communicate to stakeholders the benefits of using change management methodologies, such as reduced risk, increased chances of success, and a smoother transition to the new system or process. Use real-life examples and case studies to demonstrate the tangible benefits of change management methodologies.
  2. Tailor the approach: Tailor the change management methodology to the specific needs of the stakeholders' organization or department. Show them how it can be adapted to their unique situation and how it can help them achieve their specific goals.
  3. Involve stakeholders in the process: Involving stakeholders in the change management process can help build buy-in and support for the methodology. Encourage them to provide input and feedback to ensure the methodology is tailored to their needs and that they feel invested in its success.
  4. Highlight the ROI: Help stakeholders understand the return on investment of using change management methodologies. Show them how it can help them achieve their goals faster and with fewer disruptions, resulting in cost savings and increased revenue.
  5. Communicate the risks: Highlight the potential risks of not using change management methodologies and help stakeholders understand how it can help mitigate these risks.
  6. Emphasize the alignment with company's goals: Show how the methodology will align with and support the overall goals of the company, and how it will help the stakeholders achieve their own goals and objectives.
  7. Develop a good relationship: Building trust and a good relationship with stakeholders is key to convincing them to use change management methodologies more. Show them that you understand their concerns and that you are dedicated to helping them succeed.

It's also important to remember that change management methodologies should not be viewed as a one-time solution, but as an ongoing process that should be integrated into the organization's culture and operations. This can help build ongoing support for the methodology.

Well that looks like nice transformation expertise made available at the click of a mouse.

But, thanks god for my profession, theory and practice are the same in theory, in practice they are totally different! ChatGPT does not yet make or the for you! However, nobody is immune to technology rapid progress. To quote 2017 Sundar Pichai, 谷歌 CEO, we should all think of an "AI First Strategy" but also now, First, First, ...

Ideas are cheap, execution is everything!

It's amazing what ChatGPT can do! I asked it to compose a piece of music recently and over some conversation it was rather impressive what the outcome was.

I am trying to wrap my head around ChatGPT as it seems like the next big thing in tech. Exciting and scary at the same time.
