What is Chat GPT and what does it mean for your business?

In a recent article, Gartner discussed generative AI-driven chatbots, such as Chat GPT and explored some of their potential use cases. In the weeks following, Chat GPT has grown increasingly popular with many organisations, giving serious consideration to the ways by which the technology might support their business.

What is ChatGPT?

ChatGPT is a natural language chatbot that utilises OpenAI's GPT-3 suite of large language models. GPT-3 is a deep-learning language model that can produce human-like text. While certainly not the first AI-driven chatbot, ChatGPT has caught the attention of both businesses and the public in a way that no other data-driven tool has done before

Software engineers are increasingly turning to GPT technology to quickly create advanced programs and code with much less effort. Chat GPT itself can understand natural language requests and can produce code with greater efficiency than a human counterpart.

Alastair said “As a productivity tool, GPT-3 can quickly produce complex skeleton code upon which software engineers and data scientists can apply their individual experience and expertise. Many feel that tools like Chat GPT and GPT-3 will render certain knowledge roles obsolete. Today, these tools will instead be used to enhance and augment the capability and effectiveness of the human in the loop”.

The application of Chat GPT and GPT-3 is not limited to software development. A particular strength of the tool is its ability to process and extract meaningful insights from large volumes of unstructured data.
