The city of Dubai is rapidly moving forward in developing and implementing a new form of air transportation, known as an eVTOL. This is an electric-powered Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) vehicle, used for transportation of people or goods.
As a city that is always looking for new and innovative ways of transportation, Dubai is focusing on the implementation of this new form of transport.
With the implementation of eVTOL, many infrastructure challenges come along with it. These challenges include airspace management, ground-based infrastructure, noise, safety and privacy.
In order to ensure that eVTOL operations are safe and efficient in Dubai, all of these factors must be carefully considered and planned for.
Geography and Weather:
eVTOLs in Dubai will have to contend with issues such as high temperatures and sand storms that can cause disruption to aircraft operations.
Regulatory Framework:
Dubai will have to develop a comprehensive regulatory framework for the testing, certification and operation of eVTOLs which must ensure that the aircraft are safe for public use.
Airspace Utilization:
The limited amount of airspace in the area around Dubai will make it difficult to manage the eVTOLs’ operations and keep them separated from other airspace users such as helicopters, drones, and fixed-wing aircraft.
Air Traffic Management:
Managing the airspace around Dubai can become complex and difficult when many vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs) start to operate at the same time.
Infrastructure:
Building an infrastructure to support eVTOLs will require a significant amount of planning, development, and investment.
