Many employees have very little to do with their CEO. Usually they know their name and that’s it, and it’s very easy to wonder, what on earth does our CEO do? What are they really good for?
Well, you’d be surprised that to run a company, particularly a big company isn’t easy. Yes, the employees do a lot of the work and manual work at that. The day to day ins and outs of the business are often in the hands of those in the ‘lower ranks’.
But in all seriousness, a CEO should be doing everything in their power to make themselves redundant. A redundant CEO is an accomplished CEO. I can now hear all you ‘second in command’ people sneering. Yes, a lot of CEO’s do delegate, and often some difficult issues, but the really good’s ones understand their true job. The true CEO is basically there to handle bad news.
So what kind of bad news does a CEO deal with? Take a look here:
1. Lack of money
2. Poor overall company performance
3. Change in government regulations
4. Licensing issues
5. Systemic poison throughout the company
6. Lack of innovation/modernisation
So how can a CEO fix these seemingly difficult tasks?
Often a CEO has been in business for a very long time and as a result has made a lot of connections in very important places. These can be head of banks, insurance companies, high level government officials and so on. They also are able to step in and understand the leverage they can get from these people. It’s not anything to do with corrupt practices, it’s to do with getting the chance to talk to people who can seriously help you.
Also CEO’s have an enormous amount of experience in problem solving major issues. They understand human nature very clearly and can strategize well. They know how to put something into practice and they know what it takes on their part.
Very high level CEO’s are really the people who rule the country. They are the ones who create jobs, the ones who get innovative, the ones who truly make creative decisions for the future of their fields.
So if you are wondering what you CEO does all day?
You’d be surprised what they carry on their shoulders.
