What is a CEO Day? Do I need one?

Monday have been deemed my CEO Days. And, every Monday I'm asked "What is a CEO day + how can I have one?!"

Appointing one day a week to fully sit in your CEO seat is a game changer. Here's why...

  1. It allows you to truly 'be' in your leadership role
  2. It invites in innovation + connection
  3. It ensures you don't get swallowed up by tasks + "to-do's"

Here is what you need to know before you planning one:

Start now: You don't need to wait until you have a certain amount of money in the bank to integrate a CEO day to your week.

You make the rules: A CEO Day offers time + space to create, innovate, organize and ideate. Give yourself the permission to do so – you're the boss.

Make it what you want: I invite you to make this day less about admin tasks (outsource those, asap) + 'catching up' and more about working on the high-level pieces of your business.

Here's how to do just that:

Choose a day: for me, it's Monday. I really enjoy a 'slower' start to the week, but that doesn't have to be you. Choose a day that feels like it will compliment your week.

Choose a focus vs commitments: Instead of 'fitting in' meetings to a day that looks "open" on your calendar, protect this time. Choose a focus instead. Maybe you've been wanting to explore the idea of writing a book...what does that look like for you? This is your time to reach out to colleagues and friends to ask questions, innovate new ideas and explore new possibilities.

Feed Your CEO soul: How are you feeling? Burned out? Consider closing the computer + head outside instead. Lacking inspiration? Go where you feel most inspired, take a drive, go for a walk, check into a local hotel. Wanting to enhance your skills? Use this day to read + dig deeper without the distraction of everyday tasks.

Check your expectations: This day is not about being productive, it's about leaning into what you need to play the long game. Remember, as a leader – you're not meant to 'do' 100% of the time, being in your brilliance is just not, if not more important.

Don't forget, taking a day to see through the trees will actually help you build a bigger forest.

As a new business owner, I am still figuring out my groove. Thinking of Monday as a "Strategy" day vs. a "Get Shit Done" day could bring a whole new level of productivity to my week...I'm starting this next week!

I tend to adopt the "fit it in when I have a free chunk of time" mindset for putting this time into my schedule, but I think this is pushing me to see the value in setting a focus day and guarding it carefully. Love this reframe - thanks Grace!
