What is caused Nifty, Sensex to crash today? Share markets end first week of 2023 in red
Bears gripped Dalal Street on Friday as benchmark indices edged lower heading a negative close for the third straight day. Nifty tumbled 132.70 points or 0.75% at 17,859.45 while Sensex settled at 59,900, down 450 points. Both indices ended the first week of 2023 nearly 1.5% lower. Most of the major sectoral indices logged losses. Twenty-five of the Nifty 50 constituents fell, with IT stocks declining 2% on Friday ahead of the third quarter earnings season, set to begin on Monday. The weakness in the market comes after US data indicated the US Federal Reserve will keep hiking interest rates to reign in inflation. Apart from this, consistent selling by foreign investors, volatility in global markets and a spike in crude oil prices also dampened investors’ sentiments.
RBI Guv Shaktikanta Das lists policy priorities for South Asian region: Inflation, debt among 6 key challenges
RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Friday listed six policy priorities for the South Asian region in order to deal with challenges like inflation, external debt, among others, arising from the pandemic, inflation and Russia-Ukraine war. “Global trade and the economy look uninspiring. We have to formulate policies in these unpredictable times. I feel there are six policy priorities for South Asian region which include: taming?inflation, containing external debt vulnerabilities, raising productivity to raise potential growth trajectories of South Asian economies, strengthening cooperation for energy security, cooperation for greener economy in the region, and promotion of tourism,” he said in a speech at an IMF conference.
Judges appointments: Centre signals a climbdown, says pending SC Collegium recommendations to be cleared soon
The central government on Friday assured the?Supreme Court?that it will adhere to the timelines for processing names recommended by the Collegium for appointments as judges to constitutional courts. Attorney General R Venkataramani, appearing for the Centre, informed the top court that 44 of the 104 names recommended by the High Court Collegiums which are pending with the government will be processed within the next two-three days.
“All efforts are being made to conform to the timelines (as laid down by the Supreme Court)”, Attorney General for India R Venkataramani told a bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Abhay S Oka.

Soon the Indian Navy is expected to get Rafale fighter jets from the French Company Dassault Aviation. Though there is no official announcement so far from the government, the French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to visit India in early March and the deal for deck based fighter jets is likely to be announced.
The bilateral visit of the French President is in addition to his visit scheduled later in the year for the G20 Leaders Summit in September which will take place in New Delhi.

WhatsApp is making it easier to transfer chats on Android phones. The Meta company is reportedly working on a new feature that will let users transfer their WhatsApp chat history to a new Android device without Google Drive back up.
A WaBetaInfo report claims that WhatsApp is working on a new “Chat transfer to Android” feature that will let users move their chats from one phone to another Android device. The feature is expected to come in a future update to WhatsApp.
