What is Career Agility...

Career agility is someone’s ability to match the pace with the requirements of business. Employees who are agile in both their approach and skills are considered to have a better ability for new roles, changing work environments, and business demands.

There is a lot of difference between a smooth career and an Agile one, most people get confused with their pay raise, a horizontal promotion, an addition in perks, an increased bonus etc. with their career growth. In fact, these all are tangible things for which we always have a desire to get more, and this is truly fair to have this in your professional journeys.

What I am trying to focus on is having an above ground view of your professional life and keeping a storing track, for a person committed to being the thought leader in his/her profession must pay attention to his/her steps towards the goal.?A good energetic and quick learning professional takes around 24 months to master a specific skill and it takes another maximum 12 months to shine it. After 36 months’ time period our brain needs new learning for new skills and this process goes on and on. If we don’t learn new things regularly our brain starts repelling new ideas and, in the end, we unlearn whatever we have learnt therefore to utilize our brains to the fullest we must keep going to learn new things. In the corporate setting of today’s world everyone just focusses on how they can become a step up in their designations but very few people invest in themselves to get ahead. If you invest today in yourself, it will pay off for the whole of your life ahead. We have become short of patience and we need quick results, but when it comes to learning our pace is far behind the required one and we learn slowly. Seeking new skills and competencies looks like the old theory rather seeking for new designations attracts majority of the workforce.

For me career agility means growing up in your professional lives with growing skill set and knowledge. Every designation comes with its challenges and pre-requisite competencies. If you don’t have the competencies to perform in a certain role you will fail or at least get locked in your career. So, it is very important to invest in yourself to elevate your career.?

The below equation may be helpful to have a different angle of career agility.


Career Agility = Skills Growth + Designation Growth?

What we have in mind is Career Agility = Designation Growth, this is an incomplete equation and can’t be balanced if you try 1000 times. Our focus remains on the later part of this equation, but we forget about the skillset, I promise you people if you invest in yourself by learning new skills, having upgraded competencies, positive changes in your behavior, try new ideas in business, employe new ways of doing same things, leave monotonous pathways which your brain is addicted to, no one can stop you to become agile you career.

Remember there are no shortcuts in the way of success therefore work hard and work smart to reach the goa. Another tip, no is responsible for your career out there, only you are responsible for yourself, your career, speed of your career, you are the only person who can keep your career agile.
