Fear is inevitable, especially if you're pursuing growth. Because growth takes you to uncharted territories, uncomfortable conversations and brings up tough emotions and decisions.
So if fear is inevitable, one must come up with a weapon to deal with it every time it shows its face at our window sill.
Here is what works for me:
1. Speaking to loved ones:
It's important to know who this is for you. For me it's my husband if I need advice or support or just a hug, my best friend if I need to vent, and my mother if I need some perspective and positivity.
2. Speaking to a coach:
Sometimes you need someone to hold up a mirror so you can self reflect and create a structure so you can create a plan for your goals. And this is when a loved one may not suffice. Working with a coach gives you the space to create awareness and take action. And taking action in the face of fear is one of the most effective methods I've known.
3. Journaling:
The other person you need to speak with is yourself. Putting pen to paper has always been therapeutic to me. There are many forms of journaling that you can easily Google. For me, just simply putting down my thoughts without structure works. At the end of it I feel like my problem now belongs to the paper. I love to write so maybe that's why I find it easy. If you find it difficult at first, a structured format or a coach can help.
4. Surrender to faith:
Once I've reflected and taken action, and basically done whatever I could control, I let go of what I can't control. And this is actually the hardest step in the process. Knowing when to draw that line, and strengthening the faith within you that let's you close your eyes and leap (and also sleep while you wait!).
The two beliefs that really help me are:
- The Universe loves me and wants what's best for me, even if I can't see it yet.
- What's meant to be will always be.
-The dots always connect.
