What can you do to create more daily power and inspiration?
Douglas Vermeeren (LION)
Filmmaker, Actor, Serial Entrepreneur, author and whatever else I feel like
Recently I posted a brief email on creating Daily power and Inspiration. I have been compiling a list of things that you can do that will help you to achieve this state. I have had a lot of people ask me for that list. So here it is. No charge. Enjoy.
At the end I also added a few ideas of how you can help others reach higher and find their own power and inspiration.
But I do want to warn you it's a long list. I challenge you to find a few ideas on the list that resonate with you. Please try them out and report back and if you've got any additional ideas that should be on this please send it to me.
Things you can do to feel More Power and Inspiration
Power and inspiration are important in your life. Here are some things you can do to immediately bring power and inspiration into your life. These suggestions come from ideas or activities that I have observed or were suggested by my students. I hope they will be helpful to you. Obviously some of these may not be exciting for you and some of the sporting activities suggested may not be your thing, but I encourage you to find things in this list that you do like and can do. Look for possibilities not problems.
You’ll also notice that most of these activities involve physical movement. That is no accident. The American Psychologist William James once said that emotion is created through motion. Therefore if you want to have a more inspiring or powerful feeling you can do it almost instantly by creating dynamic motion in your body. It’s hard to feel inspired as a couch potato, but nearly impossible to feel weak while moving with purpose.
As you implement and try some of these ideas I encourage you to try a few and don’t be afraid to experiment. One of the keys to creating power and inspiration in your life is to change things up and do things you normally wouldn’t. Keep life fresh and trying new things can help you feel a sense of adventure.
Here's a few examples:

BONUS: Making others feel powerful and inspired
While pretty much everything above can also be shared with others and adapted to help others feel more powerful and inspired I’ve included a few specific ones to help others below. These are often more complex strategies as human dynamics are often complex. For those who have participated in PPM level 2 you understand how important authenticity, honesty, trust and connection are in any efforts to influence others.
You also understand how any power or inspiration that another person may feel must come from within them. Again for those who have done the course you may remember the idea that “You cannot light a fire with wet wood.” In order to be inspired or feel powerful the other person must have a reasonable willingness score, and the higher they score the easier they will be to have a powerful and inspiring relationship with.
These following ideas come from my mentors, students and myself. Hopefully they will be of value to you in some way.
Here are the few ideas to consider in help others feel powerful and influence:
Ask for their ideas
Accept their feedback
Ask them to share their talents or skills
Listen
Give responsibility
Helping other achieve their goals
Let them be self-reliant
Let them learn responsibility
Bring up past victories
Praise them publicly
Learn to compliment
Set up reward and recognition opportunities
Point out progress
Don’t provide answers, help them find their own
If you must make a correction use the “Love-Support-Love” formula
Don’t make it your mission to fix others
Stop what you’re doing when others sharing with you
Pause to be to listen to who is important instead of focus on what is important
People before process
Remember that relationships must be more than transactional
Remember and recognize important events and dates for others
Seek to validate and understand other peoples interests
Consider the needs of others from their point of view
Ask how you might be able to help before assuming you know how to help
Build rapport before giving advice
Never criticize publicly
See value in your competition
Recognize and values individual differences
Remember that big things are only built with a team
Be willing to understand differing points of view
