So, here's a question for you: What can you do if you couldn't fail?
As a teacher for more than 17 years, I'm always up for a challenge. I continuously push myself not to settle for the comfort of the career I currently enjoy. I often ponder what truly matters to me and which goals I might want to pursue, irrespective of the risk of failure. Around 2018, I decided to take a two-year hiatus from my teaching job to explore the world of freelancing.
The first year went remarkably well. I channeled my passion into an NGO that focuses on supporting kids with cancer. I spent countless hours visiting them in hospitals together with my team after raising funds and writing my blogs on The Cancer Voice Asia. This was my first "pay it forward" project after I beat cancer (Leiomyosarcoma). Thanks to my blogging efforts, I received numerous invitations to be a guest on podcasts or collaborate with other bloggers. Content creators weren't as prevalent then as they are now, given this was the pre-COVID era.
I also ventured into party planning, which made me realize my potential as a salesperson. This led to an exciting opportunity when I met a well-known entrepreneur in Saigon who is also Filipino, Mr. Paul Espinas . I took a leap and dived into the startup world. The rest, as they say, is history.
However, the second year of freelancing was less fruitful. I lost my savings, and the birthday planning business proved to be unprofitable. Eventually, I found myself broke. In the midst of the global chaos brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to return to teaching, and thankfully, I was able to get back on track.
The key takeaway from my freelancing venture is that while I didn't earn much money, I gained a wealth of skills that opened doors to new opportunities in my field as a teacher. I've been able to leverage many of these skills in my profession, ultimately enhancing my career.
Once again, I ask myself the same question: What can you do if you couldn't fail?
There are still many things I aspire to achieve, free from the fear of failure.
What about you? What resonates with you the most? What dreams and goals would you pursue if you couldn't fail?
In this era of rapid change and innovation, it's crucial to keep pushing the boundaries of our comfort zones. Whether it's exploring new career paths, embarking on creative projects, or making a difference in our communities, the possibilities are endless when we remove the fear of failure from the equation.
Take a moment to reflect on your own journey.
Think about the challenges you've faced and the lessons you've learned. What skills have you acquired along the way? How can you use them to propel yourself forward?
Remember, the most successful individuals are those who embrace uncertainty and view failure as an opportunity for growth. By adopting this mindset, you'll be better equipped to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of your career and personal life.
So, I encourage you to dream big and take risks. Pursue your passions and challenge yourself to break free from the constraints of doubt and fear. You never know what incredible opportunities await you just beyond your comfort zone.
In conclusion, always ask yourself, What can you do if you couldn't fail? And let this question guide you as you continue to grow, learn, and achieve your goals.
