"It's not just what's inside you, it's what you do that defines you!"
When I heard this phrase recently, it made me think about how we do or avoid things (how I avoid things actually)... both personally and in business...
When I first heard this phrase I thought, "That can't be right... what we are inside makes a huge difference... our passion, our love, our values", I really thought that this phrase was very wrong...
Then I started to really think about it, and soon other phrases started to pop into my head that actually supported this statement on so many levels.
For example:
"All it takes for evil to flourish, is for good men to do nothing."
A more contemporary phrase is, "Don't just talk the talk, walk the walk!"
And from the book 'Magic Kingdom' - "What you do thunders above your head so loudly, I cannot hear a word you say."
I started to realise that you can have all the passion and intent in the world, but none of that really matters until you actually put it into action... (remember all those times in the past when you saw something new or amazing, and said to yourself, "I thought of that years ago" but never did anything about it...)
And I don't mean being busy... which is just doing stuff... but action - on purpose - with intention, which creates results that impact on yours and others reality.
This has been a fundamental foundation stone to all our business and personal successes throughout time... and has never been more important... than it is today!
Too many of us hold back, spending time learning about ourselves (always a good thing to do though), our world, the universe, without truly realising that knowledge without purpose... active, determined purpose, is as useless as no knowledge at all.
The greatest inspirations in history were men and women of action, some of that action was spectacular... for example, creating atomic fusion, exploring outer and inner space, finding cures for global diseases. Some of it has been sublimely subtle... like helping lepers in India, finding water and digging wells for communities in arid areas... but action it is... nonetheless...
So back to the statement, 'If what we do, defines us', then we really need to look at how we do what we need to do.
How do we move through the world, to make it a better place... not just for us, but for others?
What is our purpose in life?
Why are we here?
What do we need to do to make us better people?

Who do we need to connect with to fulfil our lives?
Where do we start to achieve what we want to achieve?
These are pretty amazing questions, and each and every one of us is going to answer them in a very, very different way.
For my part, I would like to make a suggestion.... it is only a suggestion because I feel that this was valuable for me, and hopefully, it could be valuable to you... if for no other reason than to give you an idea that could set you on your own path.
When I quit smoking (many years ago), what helped me was to have a small daily goal.
Now I know the word goal has a lot of different connotations for people, however, I use the word 'goal' in its broadest sense.
My small daily goal was a very simple one, it was to 'not have the first cigarette of the day'. When I got to the next day, my goal was to 'not have the first cigarette of the day!'
I kept this up, until I had actually quit smoking.
If we select any goal, whether it is to quit smoking, lose weight, learn public speaking, learn how to market and build our businesses so they can't fail... or to simply learn how to make scrambled eggs... when we follow a simple daily goal, we will be able to achieve what we set out to achieve... taking action, real action... achieving real results.
This daily goal needs to be simple, achievable, and something you can focus on every single day without too much difficulty.
By achieving our goals, one day at a time, our results start to define us in a very real way.
So... as I challenge myself... I challenge you to find out what it is you want to achieve, set a small daily goal, and move forward in your life, one day, one moment at a time.
I look forward to hearing about your successes, as you re-define yourself, and as you change your reality around you.

3 年Great questions Leo. I too, at first, had a kneejerk response of; “How we BE is more important than what we do. … And like you, faced that attitude with an ‘of course’ … it is sbout “Be-Do” not necessarily ‘do-do-be’ ?? Here’s cheers to having our actions ‘speak into our intentionally, conscious walk’ ??????
