What can you 10X in your life in 2024?

The highest level of referral strategy for financial service professionals - and equally proven ways to get out of your own way so that you achieve what you want!
I was speaking last week to a group of high achieving young professionals in Washington DC on These 7 Steps 10X Your Potential and was struck by how intrigued many people were by the concept of 10X in your life. I’m sure that’s why so many people attended. I’ve had the same response from audiences in other capital cities in Asia and Europe just in the past seven weeks. Who doesn't want to fulfil their potential?
It’s fun because you can apply it to any area of your life (just not all at once!).
Here’s how to think about it: firstly, you don’t have to take it literally in every area. It is an aspirational concept. While growing your business or income by 10X could be a very exciting target, you can’t run 10X faster, and a 10X marriage is not likely going to involve 9 more partners and work out particularly well!?
Professionally: First by all means add a zero to your current 2024 revenue goal. Could you speak to an audience that’s 10X your typical-sized audience? I had this experience twice in October and it is spectacular and unforgettable. You could 10X your newsletter or followers list. Could you 10X the number of referrals you get??
Health: This could be achieving an unprecedented or challenging physical feat by your standards or it could be consistency of taking care of yourself at a certain level (since most of us are not going to be competing in the Olympics!) – or a combination. You decide. It might seem subjective but who cares what others think. Live your own life.
Love/Key Relationships: You could choose a feeling as a 10X target or quality time. While measures are mostly subjective, you might want a relationship to be at as high a level as either it once was or as high as one you’ve had before.?You can score the quality of relationships with your partner or children on a scale of 1-10 and seek significant growth that way. Again, 10X is more likely going to be a combination of things or even a combination of loved ones.?
For some people it’s about creating a memorable experience that brings many loves ones together like a destination holiday. All I would urge is to make sure how you gauge 10X is something you can control and do your best with versus it being dependent on feedback from others which you cannot control.
Financial: this one is easy to make 10X.
Other: Giving back to a cause or house of worship is also easy to make measurable and could combine time and money. Adding a hobby, new skill (learn a new language or musical instrument) or side business might fit here depending on what you come up with. Write that book. Make that speech. Create that video course. What could be a purely a 10X fun goal that is something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t? Embrace the spirit of this while you still can.
What NOT to do with your 10X Goals
1.????Avoid giving them a deadline any time soon.
You want to feel GOOD about the goal.
2.????Avoid getting demoralised and giving up because you can’t figure out the HOW
Your brain will immediately want to figure out HOW you’re going to do the 10X. This is normal and, if you’re not careful, it will quickly fill your head with so much self-doubt, that you will curse me for writing about this and yourself for ever entertaining the concept!
?It’s crucial to understand that if you already had a clear path to your 10X, you would already be well on your way. But your brain needs to grow a new antenna for how you’re going to get there, and this will take time, so you have to go easy on this growth.
Embrace the spirit of becoming an increasingly CURIOUS person. This new antenna - or radar - will gradually start to pick up on new ideas. New questions will pop into your head that you will start to ask. You will hear or read things that never crossed your mind before because they simply weren’t on your radar before. This is how our minds work, e.g., Most people who earn $30,000 per year are not going to notice/hear/catch ideas that could make them $500,000 because they seem too far flung and other worldly. It wouldn’t cross their minds to take such ideas seriously.
In the same way, if you’ve never thought about raising bees, owning a tattoo parlour, or riding a husky sled across the Antarctic, it will never have occurred to you to seek out how to do it either.
What to do with your 10X Goals
Change your current environment
You will also want (and need) to spend more time with people who are at the 10X level you desire so you can increasingly absorb how they THINK and see the world and what they DO.
Why is this so important? Because your identity has to get to the point where it is incongruent for you NOT to think like them and do what they do. This is a process that takes time (I hope you are noticing how often I keep saying this. SHIFT HAPPENS in your brain, but it needs time!).
If it’s too hard to find those people to know personally or you can’t afford to hire them as mentors, you have to absorb them online, in their books, or through their podcasts. Reconsider whether it is still worth hiring them even if it feels like/is a financial risk – so long as they truly have done what you want. Speaking from my own life experience, sometimes it’s not enough to read other role model’s ideas. Sometimes you need to hear it directly from the horse’s mouth – sometimes you need that person to explain it differently than how they explained it in their book or on their online course because you can’t quite understand what they mean (and that’s okay – we all learn and think a bit differently. I remember for YEARS not understanding what Stephen Covey was talking about when he wrote that the key to changing your life was to change your paradigms – it drove me nuts because I couldn’t understand what he meant by paradigms and the example he gave in his book!)
Sometimes you have to pay to play to get in certain rooms. It is a risk, and it is, sometimes, one of the rules of the game. These mentors are still flawed human beings and you’ll discover there are things about their life you wouldn’t want, but they’ve figured out how to get where you want to go, and this is priceless.
Have some fun with this, let your 10X goals start to stretch your brain and what’s possible for you and make sure you keep your head in a positive place so you stay in the game long enough to see some magical results.
?To 10Xing your potential!
Matt

11 个月I really like your advice about spending time with people who at the 10X level. My brother in law is CEO and founder of PCF insurance, one of the largest and fastest growing insurance groups in the world. We spend a lot of time together in an informal, casual, social environment, when he’s not “on duty”. Over the years I have been friends with many others who have achieved great things, I believe the common denominator is that these people expect to succeed, they’ve learned to focus on positive thoughts and outcomes and know that there is a solution to most challenges if we stay in the fight and keep looking. They have also developed the emotional intelligence to be able to appreciate and applaud the successes of those around them without jealousy or negative feelings, they are happier. They all have a profound curiosity. I’ve learned that you are absolutely right, we become like those we associate with, not just who we stand next to, but those who we choose to make our people. Good words Matt.
