What can the weather forecast teach you about your future and your mind?
The weather app - predicting the future
When you have made plans or are heading outside, it's normal to take a glance at the weather forecast.
If it's looking dull and gloomy outside, you might think twice before heading out, making sure you have wrapped up for the cold or wind.
Whereas on a sunny day, you might opt for lighter clothing.
The purpose of a weather forecast is to try to predict what's around the corner, to help you go about your day accordingly.
Yet, is the weather forecast always correct, and what does this all have to do with your mind?
The weather forecast operates very much from a predictive stance; although it may not always be completely correct, the prediction comes with a certain level of confidence.
Like the weather forecast, your mind is also always trying to predict the future.
As it starts to make predictions about the future, it starts to draw conclusions about the future even if the forecast isn't entirely correct.
Sure, sometimes it gets things right but other times it wildly misses the mark.
Constant predicting can cause stress and anxiety, which then starts to impact your actions, which then begins to impact your day-to-day life.
Although your mind likes to predict and forecast, remember it won't always be correct.
Be wary of when your mind goes into forecasting mode.
Forecasting too far into the future?
When you are looking at the weather forecast, you might look beyond tomorrow; you might look into the next seven days or 14 days.
The further along you look into the future, the more likely it is that the forecast will change.
If you tried to look at the weather forecast too far into the future, you are more likely to encounter changes or inaccuracies along the way.
Yet in life, we still try to look ahead into the next month or future without really knowing what could happen.
Sometimes you just need to spend less time forecasting and more time actually living.
Moral: You can never truly determine the rain and sunshine in your life, which is why you just have to focus on the 24 hours in front of you.
If you spend a lot of time worrying about the future, realise that your mind will always try to forecast and predict; what you do with that forecast is down to you.
