Fox News said in a shocking statement that Monday that it has broken ties with right-wing extremist Tucker Carlson. Carlson exploited his position as host of the talk network's prime-time program to exert tight control over the Republican Party.
The announcement came a week after Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems reached a massive defamation settlement worth $787.5 million regarding the network's spread of election hoaxes. The lawsuit had made Carlson's criticism of his coworkers public. His now-fired top booker, Abby Grossberg, highlighted several claims of misogyny on his show in a complaint she filed in March.
Tucker Carlson drew a lot of eyeballs to his show, which translated into a lot of advertisement revenue for Fox Network. In fact, he was a moneymaker for that platform.
The path Tucker took to gain attention has the possibility of drawing in more costly lawsuits. So they did what every manager will do, throw him under the bus to save the company.
As an employee you're dispensable. That's a hard truth many are not willing to accept. An employee is not bigger than the company no matter the revenue or value he(or she) can bring to the company.
What is the best protection you have as an employee? It is to continue to increase your value via skill development, build your network and develop multiple income streams to shield you when you lose your job.
