One of the earliest memories that I have as a kid was learning about Koko the Gorilla and how she could speak through sign language. I remember being so fascinated by this and the remarkable work these scientists were doing. Reading about Koko's death today reminded me of how awestruck I was a kid. However, as an adult my perspective has shifted. I am still awestruck, but for a different reason. You think your job is hard? Try teaching a gorilla to speak 2000 words of English through sign language over 46 years.
Never give up. Dont accept the status quo. Break barriers and be remembered for the good you have done.
