What can we learn from David Goggins and Ethan Suplee's Transformations?

What can we learn from David Goggins and Ethan Suplee's Transformations?

Maybe you don't have a huge number like 250 lbs, 100 lbs or even 50 lbs to lose. Maybe there's only 15-30 lbs between you and the body and longevity goals you have for yourself.

No matter where you are in your journey, there is still a valuable lesson in these guys' transformation journeys.

David Goggins 100lbs+ Weight Loss
Ethan Supple 200lbs+ Weight Loss

At his heaviest, Suplee said he could only be weighed on industrial-style scales. He used food, alcohol and drugs to "numb" before getting sober in 2002.

Goggins said due to his traumatic and abusive upbringing, asthma and learning disability, he was depressed and, like Suplee, used food as an outlet.

He would go to 711 and get a large chocolate milkshake. "Then he would go across the street to 7-Eleven and get a box of mini doughnuts.

Their Transformational Mindset:

Every day, Goggins and Suplee wake up with the mindset that they must kill their old version (EVEN NOW AFTER THEY'VE ACHIEVED THE RESULT).

Suplee calls it "Killing His Clone." The fat and lazy identity that tries to hold him back every day.

And I love this because it's a daily RECOMMITMENT to their future identity.

I'll repeat it.

It's a daily RECOMMITMENT to their future identity.

Identity habits are the most powerful tool we have as human beings to drive results. Too many people spend hours looking for hacks, tricks, and cheat codes that will deliver the desired results without the effort or requiring major lifestyle and habit changes.

The problem with this approach is that the lack of effort and poor habits regarding health are what make people overweight and unhappy in the first place.

YOU NEED TO KILL THAT VERSION OF YOURSELF AND REBUILD A NEW ONE.

And it's f*cking hard.

Make Your Future Self Proud:

Our society doesn't have a weight loss problem; we have a weight RE-GAIN problem.?

If you don't change your habits or identity, when life throws you curveballs, you revert to comfort and your old ways - YOUR OLD IDENTITY.

It's like saying I want to save money but still want to live beyond my means... it just doesn't work.

The Takeaway:

Every day is an opportunity to build the identity that makes you, your family and your future self proud. The old version will try to sneak in, and you need to practice resilience to stay the course.

I know because I had to change my identity like Suplee and Goggins, and it's something that I continue to fight against every day. The booze and drug abuser, chip and bar food-loving version of myself will creep in from time to time. Even when I go into restaurants or bar bathrooms, my brain will crave cocaine from all the times I used to use it.

The pathways are that strong.

But I've built the identity that allows me to win the battle against my self-sabotaging urges.

If Goggin's, Suplee and I can do it. So can you.
