What Can We Do to Help Each Other?
The basic idea: My friend Eric Gerber, writing on on LinkedIn the morning of 9/11, asked, "What can we all do to help each other, help our country and rally behind what makes our country great, despite its imperfections?"
Over the weekend, I thought a lot about Eric's words, which also addressed his hope that we will come together now, as we did after 9/11.
The reason I thought so much about this is because hardly anyone says this lately: let's come together and help each other.
A bit more background: I don't want to hear any more about what's wrong with the other political party, or person, or action, or event.
It's time to finally start thinking about helping each other.
Since the pandemic started, I give a modest amount of money each month to the community fund set up to support local folks who are having trouble in this downturn. Doing this gives me great satisfaction, and it never occurred to me to ask whether the people who benefit have the same beliefs as I do. They have kid—like I do—and they are doing their best to care for their families—like I have—and that is plenty enough to unite us.
Society is at its best when people come together to help each other. It's time for us to once again live that way.
By the way, I'm not just talking about any one country. Whether you live in India or Japan or Nigeria or Peru or France or the US, I hope that you focus on coming together with the people around you to help each other.
And please don't comment, "Yes, but..."
There are quite a few folks who won't behave in the way I might wish. That's okay. We just need enough positive, proactive people so that the naysayers barely register on our consciousness.

4 年Bruce Kasanoff sir, Completely agree with you. Helping someone is not something which we should force ourselves to do instead it is something which we should responsibly do to erase the very concept of borders, figuratively, from the entire world. Spread positivity, that is what we are made for.
