What Can Heal a Father-Son Relationship?

Last March, I got an email titled "Tribute." The sender, whom you’ll meet on the video, wrote this:

My name is Tim Woodward, and I wanted to contact Tracey and tell her a story about how Charlie Tremendous changed the course of my life and the relationships in my family. It is a story of a miracle and how God used Charlie and subsequently me.

Nothing gets me more excited than receiving notes like this. Thanks to all of you who share a memory, thought, or experience of interaction with my father. I never get tired of hearing your words.

So I reached out to Tremendous Tim and listened as he shared how a happenstance trip to a book store impacted his broken relationship with his son and continues to do so today. After asking Tim's permission, I knew I had to share it with the rest of you.

My father called books The Great Relationship Builder for a reason. There are times when relationships are so strained or broken that the only way words can be exchanged between two people is by reading them. Or we may be so tired, embarrassed, or ashamed that we cannot articulate anything, and that's where books come in.

In this audio, Charlie Jones talks about the miracle power of the right book at the right time. As we get older, our minds don't keep pace with our bodies, but what we feed our minds and hearts determines our growth as a person.

So if you have a strained relationship in your life (who doesn't!), why not grab a book and begin reading together. And if the other person won't read with you, you read it on your own. I promise you the change you experience in yourself will do more to heal a lifetime of hurts than any counselor or drug.
