Local Authorities don’t have the ambition, skills or resources to save the High Street and in the absence of a single landowner it’s survival relies on a partnership approach between landlords and tenants. Great to see Martin’s supporting its tenants and working with the kings Road Partnership and other retailers. 30 years ago we used to shop regularly on the Kings Road, drawn by Peter Jones and the many fashionable diverse independent retailers but we stopped when it became dominated by high street chains. Now we regularly eat, drink and browse the shops on the way to and from the Saatchi Gallery. Every high street needs an anchor tenant to draw people in and increasingly that isn’t retail.
