What can be done with Plastic Waste to make it Useful?

Humans have been creating plastic waste for many years. Nowadays, plastic waste is being generated at an unimaginable rate. Globally, approximately 50 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated each year. This has become an environmental disaster; water bodies and coastal areas are suffering from the influx of plastic waste, rainwater is being absorbed into soils and thus reducing their ability to absorb water, and plants cannot grow because they are choked by plastic.

But besides #Plastics are an essential part of modern life. If it weren't for plastics, where we could store things and they wouldn't break or wear out, we would have to buy new products from time to time. Plastic is inexpensive, long lasting, and easy to use compared to metals and wood.

The plastics market is one of the most complex areas of industry. Plastics are produced from a variety of raw materials and nature, including oil and natural gas, coal and wood. In addition to this, there are several groups involved in the process of creating plastic products such as polymer manufacturers, chemical companies and petroleum refineries.

What you need to know about plastic is as follows:

Plastic is all around us in our daily lives!

Plastic is one of the most commonly used and manufactured materials in the world. It is especially pervasive in construction, medical and consumer products, packaging, transportation, electrical devices and electronics goods such as cell phones and computers. Plastic is versatile and durable which makes it easy to recycle and durable in the long term. It can be recycled numerous times if being disposed of in an appropriate manner. Almost every product with a printed ad on it uses plastic to package its contents - clothes, shoes and other accessories.

Repurposing plastic garbage is possible

Recycling waste plastic and reusing it in the production process minimises the requirement for virgin plastics and increases the economic worth of trash.

Most plastics are difficult to extract from the environment because they either cannot be easily recycled or cannot be used in any way other than as a disposable resource. A few types of plastic, however, can be remoulded and reused. These include HDPE and LDPE (low-density polyethylene), which can be extruded into pellets, melted, remoulded into shape, reheated, and recycled again.

Chemical recycling is always a good thing to go along with #plastic recycling. It's possible to recycle chemical-grade polymers into usable ingredients, like the ones used in polyester and polyamide (PA) plastics. This method is often used by recycling plants that don't have the capability to handle regular plastic waste.

Plastic trash is becoming a major concern around the world

The lack of sufficient #waste management systems is one of the biggest causes of global environmental issues. More than 30% of the world's population now lacks access to adequate trash collection and disposal.

There is no single solution that fits all

There are many ways to reduce single-use waste. By switching your habits to a more #sustainable and #circulareconomy, we can all play a role in protecting the environment for generations to come.

At the same time, other solutions must be built and scaled

Plastic waste is a global problem. We want to help solve it by doing our part to reduce plastic pollution and create a circular economy, where we reuse and recycle everything we can. Ecoex makes it easy for you to manage your plastic waste.
