I remember also pubs that sold only beer and shops that closed Wednesday, Saturday afternoons and all day Sunday. However in Ireland in the 70's it used to be the case that many pubs also had shops or vice versa and were open every day until late. This has prompted me to go back to the future to see what other innovations I can find; the he question John has raised in my mind is why didn't someone think of that sooner? A bit like wheels on suit cases. (thanks Alan Cochrane,comedian for that last bit).
