What can be accomplished in a week?

It's Monday, the beginning of a new work week -- and I started wondering, what can be accomplished in a week?

  • If you graduate from college at 22 and work until you're 65, it means your career will span a total of 2236 weeks.
  • If you're anywhere along that pathway, you can see that your number of remaining weeks is (perhaps significantly) fewer.
  • For example, if you've just hit 40, the number is down to just 1300 weeks remaining in your professional life.

A friend recently commented to me that this year has "flown by" -- and I had to agree. But I realized this morning that also meant that the 38 weeks of 2022 so far seemed to pass very quickly. We only have 14 more to go this year.

Here are three steps to get the most out of your week:

  1. Set targets and make a plan. Be specific. You don't have to do a multitude of things...but you should plan on doing something.
  2. Dedicate yourself to making progress every day. The old cliche of "slow and steady wins the race" applies here. Your aim should be to simply move toward your target with a specific action step each day. A great deal can be accomplished in a week if you set your mind to it. If you put in the work, a week is more than enough time to make significant progress.
  3. Don't underestimate the power of a week. Benjamin Franklin is quoted as saying, "If you love life, waste not time. For time is the stuff that life is made of." Even a week of vacation is not wasted. We all need our batteries charged and our spirits lifted. Make sure to make time this week -- and every week -- to nurture your spirit and expand your thinking.

If you take these three steps, then by the end of the week, you may be amazed at what you've accomplished.

A single week is more than enough time to make real progress towards your goals.

So what will you accomplish this week?
