Tracey and I have been running BBB Success Groups for 12 years and coaching businesses for long before we created our Success Groups. What the business looks like now is very different from how it started. Plus, business success and growth should always be celebrated as not every business survives.??
BBB and its members are testament to the approach we take and so, I thought I’d share the 12 key lessons we’ve learned over the years so that you can apply them in your own:??
1. Running a business is harder than you think?
Get help and support as early as you can. Find a good community and be super discerning with who you ask for help.? We spent years implementing well-meaning but ultimately nonsense advice in the early days.??
2. Sales first?
Learn how to sell. Don’t hide behind marketing.? It’s important to growth and a skill that’s useful across every aspect of running a business.??
3. Build your business around your skills?
Push yourself out of your comfort zone but don’t try to be something you’re not.??
4. Know your weaknesses?
Either educate yourself to fill in the gaps or bring in people with the skills who can do it for you.??
5. Know your numbers?
Get into the habit of running cashflow forecasts early on.? Get the best accountant you can afford and leverage them to learn how to read the numbers and plan.? ?
6. Have a vision?
It doesn’t matter how big or small, as long as it inspires you.??
7. A business will magnify all your shit?
This is an amazing opportunity to grow and heal. Embrace it. Also know that every other business owner has the same shit, even if it doesn’t look like it on social media.??
8. You need drive to keep going?
Some days you’ll rely on your motivation but most of the time you need to be disciplined, focused and keep moving forward.??
9. Goal setting?
This needs to be done properly and is so underrated. Set out what you want to achieve, break it down into chunks and align your actions to achieving that goal.??
10. Build partnerships?
Find good people who share the same values as you and build long term relationships with them.?
11. Don’t ever think you know it all?
Every event, every conversation, every milestone there is an opportunity to learn. Constantly educate yourself to improve as a business owner.?
12. Take good care of yourself?
You are your greatest asset and are best when you’re firing on all cylinders.? Make exercise, rest and play as important as working hard.?

“Brilliant webinar today.?George crystallised why I've become stuck and the issues I'm having. Now I need to work out the new way forwards!??
I feel like all the coaches and gurus I've come across are all about selling better, marketing, you must be churning out content on x/y/z social media channel. But you have to get those first cogs right, and I haven't come across anyone who actually helps with that!”??
