What brought you back to LinkedIn Kevinjohn?
It's been over two years since my last article, and 18 months since I changed my status to "Be Right Back...". So what changed in my life to bring me back onto LinkedIn after so long away?
- Was it my man Gary V lauding the platform?
- Was it the improved service and targeted advertising?
- Was it the Agile and Digital Transformation communities that thrive here?
- Or was it the HUNDREDS of messages that LinkedIn didn’t deliver over the last 3 years?
Oh yes, thats it...
But now that I’m here, I’m thrilled. I have really missed this.
The conversations, the snippets of brilliance, the discovering exciting people you never knew you never knew, and watching recruiters that haven’t moved with the times blaming everyone else for it not being the early 2000s anymore (it's almost 20 years since the dotcom bubble lads, cop yourselves on), and I am genuinely enjoying all of it!
So, goggles on, because I’m stepping back into LinkedIn in 2020.
Now, I can’t guarantee that I’ll be back on the old social media full-time, or that I’ll go back on the conference circuit, or comment on others blogs when tagged or even writing on my own blog (some communities like to smash my car window in).
As much as I'm ecstatic that LinkedIn has finally started to get its organic engagement model right, it's been a really bloody tough 18 months.
On good days I still feel very exposed engaging with anyone. On the bad ones, I convince myself that I'm such charlatan, that my imposter syndrome has imposter syndrome... and they're both worried I'll be found out! So I doubt I’ll go back to video anytime soon, or have a regular posting schedule; which means my Insta (26k) and Twitter (31k) will both stay deactivated.
But today I wrote recommendations for some wonderful people that I worked alongside last year. It felt good to let them (and the world) know how much I enjoyed my time in the trenches with them, delivering something truly amazing.
Heck not just amazing... but record breaking!!!
And now, once I post this, I’m heading out to Christmas Dinner with my current team. They know a very different Kevinjohn, one that's far more Smallville's Clark than Kingdom Come’s Kal-el.
I hope they won’t have to wait a year to know how much I am enjoying my time with them.
And to you, if you read this far, thank you for your patience - especially if you're one of the people who thought I'd disappeared without replying to you.
Now go engage with the other wonderful people on the platform.
We’ll chat again soon.
