What brings you joy?
It's easy to get caught up in the busy-ness of life. Most people have schedules with very little "blank" spaces on their calendars. Back to back meetings. A never ending to-do list. People forget the importance of doing what brings us joy, inner peace, and happiness.
You may think..."I'd love to __X__, but I don't have the time."
In reality, finding time for joy is not exclusive to those with unlimited time and no troubles to speak of. In fact, many of the happiest people on earth are also coping with serious challenges. The difference is that they have learned to make time for simple pleasures that can be enjoyed quickly and easily.
Take time each day to cultivate that which brings you joy!
Cultivating a joy-filled and happy heart takes no more than five minutes. The result is neither complex nor complicated, although it will be profound. It is also a reminder that there is always a reason to smile. Many things that are joy-inducing can be accomplished in five minutes, including:
- Enjoying an aromatic cup of your favorite tea.
- Taking a stroll through a park.
- Writing about your goals and dreams in a journal.
- Breathing deeply while you listen to the still silent voice within.
The key is to first identify what makes you happy. What brings you joy? What makes you dance? Or, as one of my good friends would say, "what floats your boat?"
When you give yourself the freedom to take a break and do what brings you pleasure, five minutes can brighten your life immeasurably. When we have the least free time to devote to joy, is often when we need to unwind and enjoy ourselves the most.
Making joy a priority will help you find time every day to indulge in the things that inspire and uplift you. Eventually, your joy breaks will become an established part of your routine.
Start by pursuing activities you already enjoy. Gradually add new and different ways to fill your daily "joy" breaks. Once you do, you will never be without something to smile about.
