Branding is the process of developing a business identity; it's the way your company and/or product is ultimately perceived. So why is this important? "An effective brand strategy gives you a major edge in increasingly competitive markets." entrepreneur.com
Branding Defined:
"The process involved in creating a unique name and image for a product in the consumers' mind, mainly through advertising campaigns with a consistent theme. Branding aims to establish a significant and differentiated presence in the market that attracts and retains loyal customers." businessdictionary.com
According to shopify.com, "The purpose of branding is to simply and easily help your customers understand what you offer and how you’re different." In other words, it's about being remembered, recognized and referenced by others.
We are all familiar with the most influential brands globally. Companies like Nike, McDonald's, Adidas, Mercedes-Benz, Apple, Coca-Cola and Google are easily identifiable. The question is how did these brands become so relevant? Adverts help, but a memorable name, logo and image actually launched these brands into the business stratosphere, forever immortalizing their image among the public.
Before you brand your business, make sure you are covering the basics. Consistency is key. So where do we begin?
1. GIVE IT A NAME
Choose a name that is relevant. Words are powerful, thus your company's name needs to represent your business as a whole. Keep it simple and catchy. The easier it is to read and/or pronounce, the better.
2. LOGO
In the business realm, image is everything. In fact, choosing an image can either make or break your company. Stick to a theme. Take the time to develop your brand and trust in the process. Most companies build up a brand over time. Color variations and slight design modifications may occur, however it's important to remain focused.
3. STRATEGY
Pick a theme and stick to the plan. Once again, it's about consistency. From a marketing standpoint, you want your business to be recognized and remembered. When it comes down to a solid strategy, it's all about connecting the dots and simplifying.
Don't be afraid to test ideas out publicly. Social media platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are perfectly suited for experimentation. Once you begin testing out these ideas, pay close attention to the reactions and build upon it. Trust in the process, stick to the game plan and don't ever give up.
