What is a Blue Canary?
By Dan Ryan

What is a Blue Canary?

I’m not a particularly pious person, but I have found my calling. I’ve just started preaching my gospel: let’s get people to travel again.

Two months ago, I wrote an article called “Why I Do What I Do". It’s quite clear to me, what gets me out of bed every day is that I can impact others by shortening their journey. The puzzle I set out to solve in that article is: how do we get housekeepers, engineers, and hotel operations teams back to work? And that’s why this week Chris Wilkerson, Carl Runge, and I founded Blue Canary, which brings actionable solutions in cleanliness to all hotels. We bring a hospital-developed platform of systems, training, and data to hotels to ensure housekeepers, engineers, and operations teams adequately protect guests, and safeguard hotels against future lost revenue. We take pride in our ability to make both the guests and the hotel staff feel safe.

More often than not, I agree with many: the journey is the destination. However, when I hear what someone’s biggest frustration is or current challenge might be; a name, a productivity hack, manufacturer, or a book that I can share pops into my head. I thrive off of making those connections. I strongly believe that everyone needs to connect now more than ever. That’s what the experience of travel is to me: new connections on steroids. Travel is the vehicle through which we connect and experience nature and humanity.

This new endeavor compliments all of the work that the big hotel brands are doing and helps the small independent brands filled with so much passion embrace transparency, learning, and ultimately create a culture of winning.

It has felt so good to be on the road again working with hotel teams, giving them visibility, and confidence to know that they have the ability not only to make themselves feel safe but also their guests.

Come with me on this ride. Let’s get people to travel again with confidence.
