What is BIM? Is BIM just Revit? Should I call IT??

According to Autodesk, Building Information Modeling (BIM) is defined as “the holistic process of creating and managing information for a built asset. Based on an intelligent model and enabled by a cloud platform, BIM integrates structured, multi-disciplinary data to produce a digital representation of an asset across its lifecycle, from planning and design to construction and operations.” (https://www.autodesk.com/solutions/aec/bim)
Sounds complicated. Right? Are we talking about Revit? Should I call IT for that? - please don’t
In plain English, BIM is not part of IT. Also, (BIM) and REVIT? are not synonyms for the same thing and should not be used interchangeably. Simply think of it as that BIM is the process and REVIT? is the technology. BIM is the overarching platform, and REVIT is the tool that helps us, as architects and engineers, build with confidence and efficiency. This confidence comes from visualizing what we design in 3D and detecting clashes before we get to the building site and the efficiency of quickly making changes without added work redundancies, thus saving time and energy.
If saving time and energy sounds like a good idea, stay tuned for our ongoing series on BIM.?
