What are the biggest challenges faced by coaches, consultants, and trainers?
As a voice and communications skills coach with more than 25 years of experience, I know firsthand the highs and lows of building a successful coaching business.?
Most coaches and trainers choose this profession because they have experience and education in their chosen field, they have got great results for others, they are passionate, they have always wanted to be their own boss, and they want to move away from t 9-5.?
When starting your own business, coaching or consulting is a great way to go as it doesn’t require a big financial investment, but there are some challenges that are not always considered at the time of starting out and only arise when you are already well into the journey.?
The biggest challenges, I experienced and see other coaches and consultants whom I work with experience are:
Quality Clients
To start a new business, you need more than just knowledge and skills in your field. You also have to build relationships with potential clients and this is where many coaches, consultants, and trainers struggle. They are passionate about helping their clients but don’t realize the time and skills investment required to market their services.
Consistent Monthly Revenue
As any coach knows, maintaining a consistent monthly revenue can be a struggle. There are always going to be fluctuations due to holidays, sickness, and the highs and lows of business.?

Understanding Your Own Value
Too often, coaches and consultants undervalue their services and end up charging too little for the value they provide. This can have serious consequences. When you undervalue your services, you send the message that you don't believe in your own value. Also, when you charge too little, you attract the wrong clients. If you want to be successful as a coach or consultant, it's essential to value your own worth and charge what you're worth.?
Building a Business That Can Grow & Scale
It can be tough to break out of the one-on-one mindset. You're used to working closely with clients, and it can be difficult to imagine scaling your business beyond that. But, if you want to build a company that can grow and thrive, it's essential to think about how you can scale your operations.
What’s the solution?
To find and connect with more high-quality clients, you can implement an automated digital marketing strategy that allows you to speak to your ideal customer at the moment they are searching for exactly what you can offer. The best way I've found to do this, and it works incredibly well for my business, is with a 90sec video that leads your prospect to opt-in for a short presentation about your services and how you can help them. During this presentation you can establish credibility, believability, and trust in your potential client, so they are ready and actually want to work with you. Through this method, you are also building a list of highly interested people whom you can continue to nurture and ad value to until they become paying customers.?
To build greater consistency in income and a business model that can scale, creating digital products or services that can be offered remotely is a great solution. This could include online courses, subscriptions to coaching, e-books, or even simple video tutorials. By taking your services online, you can reach a much wider audience and start to build a real brand for your business. Additionally, you can start to create systems and processes that will allow you to work with more clients without sacrificing quality or service.
Making the switch to a scalable business model can be daunting, but it's essential if you want to take your company to the next level. With careful planning and execution, you can build a business that will thrive for years to come.
