1. Ask yourself WHY you want to make a million dollars? If the answer is "To be rich!" just think about that for a while, because it makes no sense. That answer has to be crystal clear, specific, and nothing to do with a material item but rather provide some sort of meaningful purpose in your life. This needs to be defined before all else.
2. The laws of economics, are about as absolute as the laws of physics. The faster and bigger the financial goal, the lower the chances of success (this is relative to the person and relative to the path taken). Its not an opinion, its a mathematical certainty.
3. Understand that cash flow is oxygen - any financial entity dies without it. What ever path is chosen, cash flow must be the number 1 variable to plan in and ensure exists from a day to day, month to month, year to year basis. How hard you work, how great the idea, how ethical you are, means nothing without cash-flow.
4. Create revenue not tied to your time.
5. You need to know where you are going in order to get there. Some people seem to have only a vague idea of what they want to do in life. Others know what they want but not how they want to get there. Define your idea of success so you will know once you actually get there, and how you plan to get there as well.
