What is the best way to handle SPAM?

We all receive unsolicited emails daily. At some point they become distracting and increasingly difficult to manage. I try to be diligent in using the "unsubscribe" function, but increasingly marketers are using direct emails to pitch unsolicited services and products. I save a "canned" email for such tactics that suggests to the marketer that I did not ask for the email, and the absence of an unsubscribe function is rude, especially when the same sender repeats the tactic with ever increasingly levels of urgency.

Today I received this reply back from Steve Rudy at People Systems. Was my reply appropriate? What do you think of Steve's reply back to me? How do you manage SPAM?
